general pain killers. warm drinks, honey water, smooth drinks like milkshakes and fruit smoothies, soups, gargle warm salt water, suck sweets :smile:

Ibuprofen :smile:

When that happened to me the doctor gave me painkillers too...

I found the disolvable paracetamol and codeine's worked a trat, plus eat wholemeal bread, it hurts but it helps scrap the stuff from the back of your throat.

I would just like to thank you for putting an image in my head through the thread title.

Ibuprufen.

It'll hurt for a while, no choice. You could get a jab if you want to get over it quicker.

My doctor gave me a throat spray. It was really helpful, numbed the mouth and throat. Dissovable paracetamol is really good too.

So you have tonsilitus, I had this so much when I was younger, an average of once a month, and I was told if I had it again I'd have to have my tonsils out, I've been lucky as yet :biggrin:. The best way to deal with it is to eat really cold foods, like ice cream, gargling and **** won't actually do anything as you don't have a sore throat, you have pus-filled tonsils [sorry for the mental image there.] and honey is good as well. The absolute best way is to stop thinking about it, and then you forget about the pain!!

You can get a similar spray from the pharmacist, it's called Difflam. Soluble paracetamol or aspirin (sipped nice and slowly so it doesn't all rush right past your tonsils) also helps.

My doctor gave me Solpadol for this, best painkiller i've taken for it.

I liked to eat crisps when I had tonsilitis, cause they itched so much. It did hurt, but it was so worth it in the end :biggrin:

Strepsils are also good ;yes;

Difflam, thats the name of it. Forget its avalible from pharmacist as I got mine free to take home when I was in hospital with Glandular fever. The spray nozzel looks scary at first but its alright really..used it for so long that I grew to love the taste.

They been like this for about a week. I went to the doctor and he prescribed some antibiotics. I just wanted to know what i could do to relieve the pain in my tonsils.

Put the paracetemol tablets that dissolve in water (I know there's a word. I can't think of it) in a glass of water and gargle it. I swear by it.

I have tonsillitis/ flu atm and ASDA failed me, having let themselves sell out of the blessed drug :frown: (WHY didn't I bring some with me to uni. I have everything. Everything. But the fizzy paracetamol)

Ah, tonsillitis, I remember it well. Had it every couple of months for 2 years. Even now the tonsils are prone to getting all achy and sore. I was supposed to get them out but wussed out. Try lemsip, it makes you feel better even if it has no physical effect :smile:
