Hi guys,

I was wondering how our overall grade is calculated for triple science ~ including the controlled assessment.

So for example, say I got an A in B1, a B in B2, and a B in B3 and plus a B/A in my controlled assessment... What would my overall grade be for Biology?
I'm really worried as the grade boundaries are most likely going to be quite high
I just hope I get no less than a B 😧

I think all your scores are calculated to UMS marks (out of a 100) and if the paper was difficult then you get more UMS marks for a certain mark etc. The UMS for your controlled assessment and three papers total 400 and 70%(B) would be 280/400. This is how I was told how it works not sure how accurate it is.

Ok i am going to assume that all these grades are borderline obvs they wont be but it will give you an idea.

80 UMS in B1
70 UMS in B2
70 UMS in B3
75 UMS in controlled assessment (75 because you said B/A)

this would get you 293/400 which is about 74 UMS so a B

You are about 27 UMS from an A so i think you stand a chance with an A if you score higher in some modules (say 90 UMS in B1 and 87 in B2)
You won't get below a B with those grades.

Thanks so much )

... About the ums mark.. I know it's a uniform scale mark but I don't quite understand it.
What's the difference between a raw mark and a ums mark?..

raw mark is how much you ACTUALLY got, the ums is your mark relative to everyone else who did the exam.
