Anyone know when open applicants get assigned to a college? I'm eagerly awaiting it.

Like bubbles50 said, it'll be the fourth week in October, then after that the colleges start arranging interviews. Kinda wish I'd applied open, would add some excitement now  .

I figured the former, but did the latter. :p: That document on the Cambridge site suggests that you're meant to only put in those you've covered, because the A2 level topics seem decidedly scanty.

I emailed them about it, they said:

"You should only include those topics you have covered and will cover this term."

So there's an official answer at long last. Pity Im now off for half therm and cant find out definitively what we will have done by December

Does anyone know if there is a deadline for the SAQ!?!

I've been waiting for it all week and only just noticed it was sitting in my junk folder for the past 5 days

End of the month is the deadline, unless you're applying to Trinity (in which case it was the 21st and you're probably screwed!)

The SAQ online form for cambridge, section 2.7:

"If you were unsuccessful in gaining a place for entry in October 2009 would you consider an offer for entry in October 2010?"

(This is not about a gap year by the way.)

Most people are likely to answer 'yes', because there is no loss is having another go at cambridge if you get rejected the first time round. It leaves your options open as you can go to another uni to study for a year, if you want to stay there, then fine, but if you want to go to cambridge, you have your chances, and chances are you can start into the second year straight away. But if you say 'yes', does this make you look desperate? Will they think: " He said 'yes' and he said 'no', they are both equally good applicants, we will take the one who says 'no' " ?

I hope this makes snese. The other info they give is below:

"If you have applied for entry in 2009, please indicate if you would consider an offer of a place for entry in October 2010. If you
answer ‘Yes’ and your application is placed in the Winter Pool, it will be considered by other Colleges for direct entry in 2009
before being considered for deferred entry. Your preference/allocated College will have the first opportunity to make a deferred
entry offer. Please note that indicating ‘No’ will not disadvantage your application for 2009 entry in any way.
If you are applying for 2010 entry, answer this question N/A (not applicable)."

thanks

I hope you weren't applying for Trinity:frown:

Deadline is the end of the month, although I would be wary of submitting it that late - the website doesn't seem the most stable -_-'

Has anyone applying to Corpus Christi received an acknowledgment? I havent :s-smilie:

I heard that last year they gave out 7 offers for 11 places, prior to the pool. I know they say that if you're good enough, you'll get an offer, but the fact is that they can't give more places than they can cater for and if they have a particularly fruitful year it's gonna lower our chances.

Oh well, nothing we can do about it now.

Has it got something to do with the fact that Emma Watson (Hermione in Harry Potter films) is going there:rolleyes:

Anyway, viva la christ's!

I don't understand what your question is, but I don't think you've quite understood what they mean there . If you answer yes then if you are pooled and not accepted for 2009 colleges then can offer you a 2010 place. I'm fairly certain that you can't then go to another university for a year

Computer science is ludicrously undersubscribed across the board, though, except (I think) at Robinson, which takes on about 3 times as many as anywhere else.

I know this is bound to change yearly, but I wish they said how many applicants they got last year.

By the way, which college are you applying to?

Reply 794

Just sent it away.

Now all that I have to do is wait (and get some essays sent)

Ah, but they do! (From here, if you're interested.)

2007:
All applications: 8
All offers: 3
(Of which through pool: 0)
Offers by other colleges: 1

(With no numbers yet available on actual admissions)

(EDIT: Looks like I was spouting nonsense about Robinson, though )

Trinity. Swithered for a while (far too long, actually!) about both Trinity Hall and St John's.

Did you remember to crop it so that it's 6/5ths as tall as it is wide?
