I really cannot write an additional personal statement! I purged myself of everything in my UCAS one, and I have nothing specific to say about the course that cannot be found in a prospectus. Is it sensible to leave it blank? All my friends are telling me to write something - anything.

my teachers all recommended that we at least write something about why you wanted cambridge.
you dont have to just talk about the course if its not that different from other unis..but maybe something about the college, the atmosphere, the teaching quality, how the classes are taught etc.

but i did leave the very last question of SAQ blank.

Just got a response:

Thank you for your email. I can reassure you that the issue you are having is a problem at our end of the system and will not effect the information that we hold on you. You should continue to complete your SAQ by complete the details in just one set of the qualifications.

Many Thanks

I personally wouldn't mention college. I was told on the open day you won't be asked about why you chose the college, as some people make open applications, so won't have applied there. Also, if you get pooled and have written about how much you love, say, King's, and you're pooled to Robinson, they'll have nothing to discuss with you.

Yes but you can certainly comment on the College system which does make it different.

Leave it blank. Go and read what Nina says if you have doubts about leaving it blank too. I'm pretty certain it's for courses specialist to Cambridge or for people who have applied for different subjects elsewhere.

I assume most people who write in that section do that anyway. It still doesn't explain why you chose Cambridge ahead of Oxford either (I suppose that isn't an issue though).

Reply 985

Well for most courses the Oxford and Cambridge courses are very different, for eg they can do joint honours, they don;t do NatSci etc, so the combination of both usually explains that.

By all means fill in the blank box if you have something to say, but don't write in it just for the sake of it, its just a waste of time and energy.

Yea, of course, mention the system, but not an individual college

Reply 987

You can obviously talk about the College if you want, its up to you what you write in there. It you write lots about College X in there, it will no difference should you be pooled. At that point you will have had an interview etc, and they have much more salient information to go on.

Reply 988

As I said, it's my personal view. If you want to mention it, go ahead, but I personally wouldn't.

Reply 989

I assume you aren't referring to me with the 'you' there! :p:

Reply 990

It was a general 'you' aimed at anyone reading

hi, for the last section of additional information, labelled 'is there anything else you would like us to know?', i personally have nothing more to add, so i thought, could i put these here:

Just in case i did not make myself clear, i love physics!

Well, i did make it clear that i love physics in the other sections as well as my ps, so its kind of a joky way to end the whole thing, plus it reinforces that fact i love it, you know, makes it more memorable than others.
what u think?

I wouldn't :nah:

It sounds very gimmicky and it makes you look as if you are not taking it seriously. They should already know you are enthusiastic about physics in the things you already submitted and if they still don't get the picture they will during the interview.

It reminds me of somebody's start to their PS:
"Sex - I love it! That's why I want to do Biology."

Our school said never EVER put comedy in as you don't know what mood the person reading it will be in:yep: , it could come across either as funny or very annoying .

Hence why I think one of my friends may well not get in to the unis he should. He has basically the same grades as me, but made some ridiculous jokes which just looked bad about him on his PS which really isn't going to help.

I'm applying through CSAS as a result of an ongoing brain problem but is it worth adding anything in additional info as to why I did so badly in particular exams, e.g I was perfectly well in C1 and C2 and received 100% in both. I was ill in M1, M2 and Economics and received 79%, 71% and A, B, D :|

Or is it not worth it?

Reply 998

If you're already applying through CSAS surely they will already have this information?

Reply 999

That's what I thought. But when my tutor filled it out, he wasn't hugely specific about which exams in particular it affected (although it might be clear from the results), he was more in depth about the specifics of my illness
