Banning of Bashy - Black Boys from TV

Ofcom say no to pro-black Grime rap?

Grime artist Bashy's underground smash 'Black Boys' has been banned from television by TV regulators Ofcom reportedely.

The video was shot in celebration of 'Black History Month' and had been spinning heavily on MTV Base and Channel U. Reports claim that 'Black Boys' is considered to be racist

This is the youtube link to the song.

I personally cannot see the reason for the ban, the song may not be musical genius but its one of the very few positive songs to go out to the black community. I can see that it is exclusive only to black boys, which can be deemed to be 'racist' but its due to the fact that we have lots of negative things going on in our community e.g. gun and gang culture and underachieving in education that needs to be addressed.

I don't see how song that is meant to be positive and inspiring to black boys has been removed from TV but we're left with the same ol songs glamourising hustling, 'drawing for the gat' (getting a gun), getting bore up (stabbed) and banging chicks. I think its a joke.

Banning the only positive grime video? Yet 50 cent runs wild? ****ing stupid.

So... are you saying that this song was pulled from television and is said by OFCOM to be possibly racist because it draws attention to the problems of the black community?

I won't lie to you, it's a completely alien culture to me; but I am interested.
It should be banned for crimes against music, not racism.
i think the lyrics are really positive for young black men and i think it is a disgrace that it has been banned.
(the song is terrible though.)

Please explain...
This is the one positive grime video that's come out of the underground artist.
He speaks about the positive lights of being black. What black youths should strive towards, to turn away from the negative stereotypes of guns, crime, etc.
The banning of this is plain stupid

Yeah you do realise it hasnt been banned? Ofcom just got a complaint and investigated, but apparently they found it inspirational. Anyway any time they make a ruling they have a publicly avaliable reference number, of which there is none.

Secondly - I just saw it on mtv base, so this is rubbish....

You'll be close to zero then...

Doesn't offend me. Seems he manages to name every black british celebrity in the song though. Talk about grouping everyone in together

I think that's the point, to let young black boys know there's plenty of successful black people and they should be influenced by it.
Its a ****ty song, i'll be honest but I don't see what's stupid about its intent. It's so ****ing easy to as a white middle class kid about to go to uni somewhere to write it off as a crappy rap or whatever but in an age when most uk grime has very little depth this is pretty inspirational.

Its about knowing that inspite of a lot of things that DO hold young black people back you can achieve something and that there are a lot of positive black british role models.

Seriously, its all good and simple slating this song but I mean, stuff like this really is a message some people need to hear you know.

I agree there are plenty of emcees/rappers/writers that could of done the song better but they didnt.
As a black man, I actually found the video slightly offensive. It kind of promotes segragation and slightly insinuates that ALL "black boys" are in a tough situation.

But that's just my take, I don't really care/watch T.V. anyways...

True dat.

Er... yeah. I agree.
Although i dont really like grime etc I thought it was a decentish song and its true that black males definitly need more rolemodels, some have very high goals in my school while the others not so much and just mess around and smoke weed etc :\

In some ways the type of success the song promotes is limited to being a singer, media icon etc. There is a smaller chance of attaining this success than academic success. Black boys, children need to her more about professionals: lawyers, doctors etc.

My family friend is Bashy's 1st cousin

I got that same feeling from the song too
