Kidney pain

Hullaw, I know the obvious answer to this is 'see your doctor' but my appointment isn't for a week (home for reading week and registered at uni docs) and I just wondered if this problem sounded familiar to anyone.

OK well I've had kidney/water infections a lot over my teens and over the past year I've started to notice when I get ill, like the flu or something like that, I often find a pain starts in two parallel places sort of under my ribs and just above lower back. Feels very similar to kindey pain I've had before.

Last time it made me quite sick, and being someone who's never sick, it really frightened me. I went to docs who said it was unlikely it was a kidney infection because I'm ok to wee and all that sexy jazz but did a test and 2 weeks (?!?!) later they tell me I have an infection.

Now I've just had a bad cold and again the pain starts. The docs again were like 'wtf it's not a kidney infection' but gave me antibiotics anyhow to shut me up I think... That was about 3 weeks ago and I still have the pain.

Now I did as told and booked an appointment to see them but have to wait cos of poo-ey waiting times, in the meantime has anybody else experienced this? I'm pretty sure it's my kidneys but it's getting embarassing going to the docs cause they just think I'm nuts for suggesting it. It is the same pain over and over though.

Anyhow, any views.....? Anyone had this or am I really going nuts?

kidney pains can sometimes be the first signs of alchol poison.

I don't think you are nuts. You obviously have had similar problems before and recognise that this pain could be something to do with that. If it has not cleared up with antibiotics and has been quite severe for the last three weeks then there is clearly something wrong.

If your doctors don't believe you, it may be better to find another doctor to whom you can explain the problem and your medical history. Hopefully they will take you more seriously.

EDIT: If you had a cold, your immune system will have been working overtime so you could well have developed an infection then.

Even if you are registered at your uni doctors it's still possible to get an appointment at your old doctors. It's likely they wil still have you on their computers but if not all you have to do is fill in a form which asks for details about the doctors your registered at and all that guff. Why don't you see if you can get an earlier appointment at home if you're quite concerned.

Just the thing about sore kidneys and still being able to wee - When I had a kidney infection my doctor told me that you can get an infection without all the other weey stuff too.

Or indeed any doctors, you just register with them as a temporary resident.

i get wierd kidney pain too...i dont understand it.
i'll be sitting down or something then my kidneys will start hurting loads for a while then it goes away. i dont even drink that much alcohol. i think its because i dont drink enough water...but ive been to the doc about it and they say if it happens again they're gunna have to do a procedure...knowing what it is i'd rather bear the pain and not go again!!

i get alot of kidney infections (major one about 6yrs ago)
and when im ill with flu i do get kidney pains i think its because my body is trying to get better my kidneys dont get as much "attention"(didnt know what word to say) plus i dont drink fluids when im ill so that aswel

Has your dr sent a sample to the hospital? i only ask because i was born with 1 kidney smaller then the other after them sending sample to hospital and a scan i was told its still 1 kidney smaller then the other so im bound to get infections

Good luck with your Drs appointment, drink plenty of water
