Question concerning the chemistry of water Watch

    So, I'm a little unsure about water molecules and how they behave.
    If you have pure water, do the water molecules still split into hydroxide ions and protons? H2O ⇌ OH− + H+
    Or, do they just remain as water molecules? (If so, in what condition does the equation above occur?)

    Sorry if the question may seem obvious.

    The do split, but at any one time, very very few of them will have done so.

    Have you done about Kc? If so, find out about Kw.
