Is it still possible to get an A in maths if I failed one of the papers? Watch

Basically I do Edexcel maths, and I do Core maths with mechanics. In AS, I got high Bs in C1 and M1, and I re-sat C2 so I can push the grade up. However, I just did M2 last week, and I'm certain that i failed the paper (it was a disaster).
So I was wondering, if I bang out C3 and C4 (aim for an A/A*, but im a pessimist), is it still possible to get an A overall?

How bad do you think you did in M2, D/E/U? Also what do you think you got in C2 and what was your exact UMS in C1/M1?

I dont remember my exact UMS for C1 and M1, but I know they were high Bs. C2, I think I will get an A. But for M2, i'm praying that I at least got a D (thats how bad it was). I wont be surprised if I got less.

Assuming that you got say about 75 (Mid B) in C1/M1, 80 (Lowest A) in C2 and 50 (Lowest D) in M2 you'll need full UMS in C3/C4 for an A*, however this is the most pessimistic situation as you could have got higher in C2/C1/M1/M2.

Basically it appears you'll either get an A* or a B, because you need to score 90+ in C3/C4 to reach 480 which you need for an A and hence you'll get an A* since both C3/C4 are over 90.

Obviously this is not accurate at all as there are too many unknowns, so just focus the on the next exams and leave worrying for after.

Do you know the exact UMS scores you got?

It's theoretically possible to get an A overall even if you scored zero on one of the papers (you'd need to be close to 100 UMS on the others though). However, you probably haven't completely failed it.

If you got more than 300 UMS in total from the 4 you've done (out of 400; averages to a middle-B - your M2 UMS would have to be guesswork), you can definitely get an A, although if you do well (90% average) in C3 and C4 you could get an A* instead.

If you got 280-300 out of 400, it's impossible to get an A. You'd have to get over 90% average across C3 and C4 which would instantly qualify you for A*. Basically you can get a B or an A* but not an A.

If you got less than 280, unfortunately it's not possible to get an A or A*.
