There are so many things to think about with UCAS points and some people say that their not really necessary, is that true? You can get them from volunteering which I do but I don't do a specific qualification. There must be other ways to get them other than specialised skills ? If so what can I do ?

The core of any application is academic achievement.

You can acquire more UCAS points, but your grades are what matter.

Firstly, many universities don't make points based offers. They ask for specific grades at A-level or equivalent.

Secondly, universities that do ask for points often specify they have to be from academic subjects.

Just accumulating UCAS points may not be helpful.

So which course(s) are you considering, at which universities?

you do need UCAS points you get them from BTECS IB and A levels there are a couple of other ways to get them but you won't get enough for uni without one of those qualifications.

As we've already said in this thread, UCAS points only matter for former polytechnics as they normally give point based offers, everywhere else, forget they exist.

About a third of universities use UCAS tariff points, not just "former polytechnics".
