This uni is a joke. Both the gym and the SU bar were supposed to be open in time for '07 freshers. I know the gym was rescheduled to open in Novemeber and then again for January. I haven't heard any opening dates for the bar other than autumn 07, which evidently was a LIE.
It's not the university's problem - it's the Student Union's. Just to clear that up. However, we can't always rely on builder's estimations of when things will be finished, can we?

Well.

The project was, sort of, undertaken by QMUL who have managed it using their preferred (haha) contractors.

AIUI, the SU has no real input on what actually happens now.

We currently do not have a union/gym/bar, thats the problem. I read in the Cub (whatever its called) magazine that there are actually 3 other bars on campus somewhere besides Bar Med and Drapers that were shut last year due to debt. They cant make profit if they dont open!

The bars that are or have been on campus, with the exception of Drapers and E1, are run by CCRS, who are ****, lazy and can't run a business (which is why they owe the college far more than the union ever did). Dunno about three bars closing though.

They cant make profit if they dont open!
But if they don't make a profit when they're open...
Global Village is also currently temporarily run by the SU as a semi-SU bar. The three bars that have closed weren't bars at all, but Cafe Amici, and "The Gallery" and one other cafe/restaurant. In the catering building. Though, to be fair I cook meals myself anyway, so why would I need to go there?
Hey guys!

Considering making QMUL my firm for history starting in September.
Is the Union back open yet? Just I wasn't taken there on my campus tour and little was said about the union at the visit day.

Is there a bar? Gym? Shop etc etc?

Do QMUL hold summer balls and are lots of union nights and activities held?

I reeeeeeally like the sound of it, but I'm concerned that there is no union compared to my other uni options!

Many Thanks

X
Bar will definately be open by September, it is actually starting to look more complete inside! [I had a peak through the window]

Whilst it's been out of action we've been taken to places all over London. Been very good! Also, it's London there is SO much to do - and you can find really cheap places about - as well as expensive.

There will also be a Gym and there is 2 shops [both are still open!]

I'm fairly sure they hold Summer Balls...there was one last year at the Wardof...
QM have really pissed me off by letting this go on for so long.

They should have just hired some Poles of the street looking for work and the job would have been done on time, and properly.

And that Canteen in Level One- wtf- why isn't it in use? And that little 'cafe amicie' of whatever its called, behind the library, what is that being used as? I've only seen it open for muslim prayers, what about the rest of us...grrr
What with the Starbucks on campus, and Roasters under the Green [yellow] bridge, do you really need another cafe? Ok, so things would have been a little better had the SU been open, but they arranged good nights out, with transport - and I quite like to get away from Mile End at night anyway...

yes.
Do you think that everything will be open again in September?

In the SU building - what exactly is in there? Do the volunteer service and job shop etc all operate out of there too?

Thank you!

QMUL HAS:

1. Global village
2. Starbucks/Curve
3.Bar Med
4. Shop near to where drapers is
5. Roasters near the yellow bridge (OK not on campus, but you get my drift)

QMUL has no official, of its own nightclub. No drapers. Drapers is nothing to do with the Union anymore, this responsibility has moved to the college. There is a dispute with 'Eugena' they are the contractors who are in charge of the design of drapers that is well at a halt for the moment. Please do not berrate the union who are not eligible to comment on a possible open date simply because they do not know. The college are more aware than the union, as someone who works closely with the Union and is friendly with the sabbaticals I can say that there is no fixed date.
