Failure?

Hi I could do with some advice please...

I have been at uni for 8 months (my course started in March) and have felt for a while things aren't right here. I just don't feel happy here and often feel lonely despite having plenty of friends. My parents have said they will support whatever desicion I make but I'm not sure what to do. I want to leave and apply to carry on my career with the army (i'm doing nursing) but am really afraid I will feel like a fialure or things just won't work out.

Can anyone offer some helpful advice?

Well, try to think which thing you'll be happier doing in the long run. There's no point staying at uni if you're only doing it out of guilt or obligation, but conversely there's no point dropping out if you're just getting a bit stressed about things. I know it's hard, but to be afraid of feeling like a failure is basically a trap in your own mind - you will only feel like a failure if that's what you've decided you are. There's no shame in trying something and finding it isn't for you.

Both my Dad and my uncle dropped out of university after a few terms and went to work instead, and both are now fairly successful, I don't think either of them regret it.

On the other hand, I seriously considered dropping out in the summer when exam stress was getting to me, but am now glad that I didn't, despite my mother's assurances that nobody would think any less of me.

if ure not sure what to do i would suggest talking to some people at your uni.. there are lots of people there designed to give you help and guidance with feeling unhappy and not settling in well enough..
if thats not really your thing or you think it wouldnt help then then i would suggest maybe researching a career in the army in more depth and see which specific sectors in nursing really interest you.. if you still feel after all that that its still for you then maybe join uni clubs especially for army cadets (im sure most of them have groups such as Combined Cadet Force which are also seen in schools) and by joining you could get a real sense of whether the army is for you or not..by staying at uni whilst looking into other options you wont lose either and you can really take ure time deciding what you want to do..

if you research, get involved, take it slowly and talk the right people then whatever option you choose you will be the right one as you and regardless of the outcome, being a failure will never enter your mind

hope that helps
