also what happens with other a level subjects too, like physics and psychology-i heard with maths you do a level in the first year but does this include the first exam??? im confused.

It depends on your school.
In some schools, you will sit Maths AS and Further Maths AS in Year 12, and Maths A2 and Further Maths A2 in Year 13.
In others, you will sit Maths AS/A2 in Year 12, and Further Maths AS/A2 in Year 13.
In some schools, you will sit Maths AS and Further Maths AS in Year 12, and Maths A2 and Further Maths A2 in Year 13.

With the new linear a-levels, it pretty much will necessitate doing normal a-level maths in the first year and then further in the second unless a school wants people doing both to have 12 hours of maths exams in year 13...
