Rain. If it rains. Even if it's just damp. Not leaving the house.

Hahaha

Reply 2

I wouldn't have gone in if I felt like that.

Reply 3

You can get away with it if you say you have major diarrhoea. In this case it would not be advisable to go to work, and you don't have to "sound" ill. :p:

lol that always does the trick

I'd be too embarrassed to even joke about that tho! :p:

If you have a male boss, tell him it's 'girl problems'. He'll run a mile. :p:

Yeah maybe I should have had a sickie today...

Trouble is I had 2 days off as holiday last week so I guess it would kind of feel wrong to then take days off sick for a sore throat

There's me thinking I'm being a total skiver and then someone says 'Rain' Hehehe!

i'd have a day off if a blimp hit me in the face. ouch.

nah, i was thinking of having the day off today as i was tired and have horrid lady problems.. lol! but i came in anyway, and i think i prefer being here in the cold.. than in my nice warm flat... ergh.

Too be honest a bit of a cold isn't really reason enough to skip work. You might regret it if you genuinely need to have a day off and you cant.

I have missed work for a migraine before but for colds and period pains I would just take painkillers and get on with it.

but if you're with other people, and you have a cold, they could catch it from you, and your being ill will have effected others....a domino effect really.

Not clever and your work colleagues won't thank you for 'braving it' by going into work whilst ill.

I'd have to be pretty ill I expect. I didn't miss a day of school in a decade, XD.

I don't really like the "soldiering on" attitude - there's a difference between skiving and really needing to just stay in bed for a day to get better. If you're sick with a cold then it's usually a good idea to take at least one day off, so that you don't infect too many people and so that the cold won't linger and linger for ages. I used to work in a school with a lot of "soldiering on" types and the place was a hotbed for disease, not just cos we were working with kids (which leads to all sorts of bugs etc) but because the teachers were spreading their plague every couple of days, it really pissed me off. A headache or something is not a good reason to stay off, but if you feel ****ty with a cold or bad pain then there's no point in suffering on - you won't really get thanked for it - look after yourself first and the job second.

(ps I say this also from bitter experience, as I had a bladder infection a couple of years ago, which I didn't stay off work for (a bit of the soldering on attitude getting hold of me) and I ended up with a horrendous kidney infection that kept me out of work for a week. Another girl I knew came into work with a bad cold day after day and ended up in hospital with pneumonia.)

I don't work, but I don't go to college if I am unwell or if it snows :frown: I hate snow!

Reply 13

'dont feel like it' is usually a good enough reason for a day off.

Having said that, I ended up working whilst in hospital the other month for a crisis...

Don't do that if you work with food though. You won't be allowed back for about 2 weeks.

People get colds all the time and most people will know how to deal with one. Sure, you can feel pretty rotten with a cold but it hardly leaves you bedridden. Anyway sore throats and headaches, which OP has, are sometimes just one off things rather than a full blown cold.

How exactly did going to work rather than lying in bed make your bladder infection turn in to a kidney infection  Fair enough, lying in bed might help you to recover from a cold but I don't get the whole kidney infection thing. I'm sure I didn't get mine because I went to my lectures instead of staying in bed.

Reply 17

Not much really because i work with food prep, colds coughs anything i get ot stay off!!!

Reply 18

I'd have to be practically dying before I would take a day off, and that is after a lot of protesting when being forced to stay off work.

Reply 19

I usually end up going into work anyway when I'm ill, then I get sent home :/
Uni is a horse of a different colour tho, "too tired" is a good enough excuse to stay in bed!
