The Student Room Group

1 boy and 6 girls!

At the uni im applying to, winchester, apparently there is alot of girls for every boy, in the reviews it ranged from 5-10 girls for every boy and what I wanted to know is does that mean there is a good chance you will end up in a house with 1 boy for 7 girls, or 2 boys for 6 girls.

Or will they do 4-4 until the boys run out then do all girl flats because thats how I hope it is because my college course is 20 girls and 4 boys and I fell such an outsider.

Is there a pattern all unis do regarding this or is it dependant on uni?

It depends of the university really. Some do single sex dorms, but the majority just bung everyone together.

In you case, this is likely that they will simply throw you into whereever a room is avaible

The guy who gets 6 girls to himself is the luckiest guy in the world.

You ever lived with more than 2 girls (being only male) for a prelonged period of time? does tend to make the sane man turn suicidal.

They'll probably make sure you arent the only guy in the house (just as they'd make sure they didnt put a girl with 6 guys).

But at least on nights out etc you've got a fair chance

I don't think so really. If you are like me and you get on better with girls then lads, its quite good. Plus girls tend to be tidier then lads.

I lived with three girls last year and it was quite good.

I can't see how you can complain about being lodged with 6 girls?!

Agreed.

2 guys 6 girls would probably be a better combination - so you've got someone sane to talk to when the girls start talking about shopping etc!!

6 girls would probably drive you insane very quickly if you didnt have someone to go to the pub with!

my accommodation application form asked if we wanted to be on an all girls corridor or a mixed. i said mixed but out of the 16 ppl on the floor (2 corridors), 11 of the 16 are girls. no problems so far.

Depends what they're like. I was as good as living with 5 girls last year, my gf being one of them, and it was hell. Each girl moans about another. Nothing ever gets solved because they'd rather bitch then say it in front of each other and the whole thing goes full circle. If you get a nice bunch of girls, which is fairly unlikely, count yourself very lucky.

You can apply for 'single sex accomodation' on your form usually.
I think it is a bad thing as girls can be so bitchy and anoying and there would be so much tension in the air that u will probably end up crying. Even so girls would rather chill with guys than be around girls

However if you are lucky to be put with girls who love each other so much and get on so well (very very very unlikley) then you are a lucky man
I lived with 3 girls to 2 guys for 2 years running - god help me.

First year was great - but they would still do stuff like one would use my stuff I'd refuse to wash it up and the others would put it in a cupboard without telling me so I'd be wondering around like a lemon sometimes for days thinking "Some b*stard's stolen all my plates!!!" then I'd find it in a box underneath the hoover growing mold :frown:

Second year - new people one had OCD and went insane about Brocoli going off in the fridge or (after her friend's little boy came over) ***** marks on the carpet in the bathroom - obviously one of us had done it in her view, I can still see her on her hands and needs adamant that it was fecal matter shouting "SMELL IT! Smell it! It's *****!" with the four other people in the house looking on amazed.

Living with girls takes a lot more effort than with boys, you have to keep them entertained and distracted so they forget about their whinging and whining, it takes so much effort.

- I'm in a house with 2 other guys, nice, chilled out and relaxed no probs.

Good luck bruv :P
where i am staying atm there is 4 girls including me and one guy and i think after the 1st term together he is getting less patient with us girlies but then again he doesnt help himself by being rude and not very friendly

i'm currently in halls, with 5girls 3boys, what you'll prob find is a lot of single sex flats instead, coz they usually put all guys on the ground floor and then so they might have run out of guys by then haha! and be the girls on top haha!

lol. i suppose it depends on what they're like. i'm in an all girl flat and generally i get along and live with blokes better. i was quite disappointed when i found out, but saying that my lovely flatmates have proved me wrong. I don't think we've actually had a single arguement yet and we resolve problems without any fuss. don't even bitch about each other.

but from past experience, i would have to say the girlies i share with at the mo are a rarity and a bloke in with the girls will probably have a few qualms over the year. o good luck, guys......
