How does shipping and receiving parcels work at university? Is there a main office that you go to in order to pick up and send parcels?

Yeah. You should receive an email from your accommodation letting you know that you have a parcel. You'll then have to go to the main office with some ID and sign for it, that's all

And how does it work with parcel verification? Do they have to look inside for security reasons and all that? Like, in case you're trying to ship drugs into the university.

No they don't look inside it, but if they can't find it, they might ask you how big it is because there may be different shelves for heavier parcels. That's how it was at my accommodation anyway.
