of course it hurts, its a needle going through your skin! its short and sharp though... only slightly worse than an injection. A bit of throbbing and swelling afterwards is normal.

A tattoo i thought felt like a stinging nettle sting. its different from the piercing pain in that its continuous but its bearable.. even if you have to grit your teeth.

Depends where on your ear you get pierced I think. It didn't really hurt when I had my earlobe pierced any time (I've got 3 in each ear), but I did have it done with a gun.

Anaesthetic? Haha. If you're that bothered about the pain, you can use EMLA cream or something (providing the tattoo artist doesn't object - talk to them) but it's not going to kill you without it.

From experience, needle piercings hurt less than gunned lobe piercings. Get it done with a needle! Guns are ew.

guns are ew.. i had 4 gunned lobe piercings, and they all hurt waaay more than the two i did myself with proper needles.

Its not that bad. Bee stings are worse.

I had my cartiledge pierced (still dont know how to spell that word and im a biomed student ), anyways. Used a needle but the hole was too small for the ring I wanted in.... so he had to kinda pull it through... so yes it did hurt, i lost about 2 liters of sweat and grinded my teeth to dust.
It really depends where you get the piercing, and who does it...
But I would stick to the needle instead of the gun...

yerr get it pierced with a needle... guns are dirty

n as a rough rule, a piercing will hurt about as much as pinching that area really hard...

It's not overly painful if you have it done in the lobe. I had mine pierced when I was about 7 and remember not making a sound but when I had them pierced for a second time when I was about 14 the piercer had to ask my Mum if I was likely to faint as i'd gone so white.

It only hurt me when I had my ear pierced half way up. Think this was because it was done with a needle though.

just to clarify...

if you do it yourself with a needle... will hurt quite a bit, as its unlikley you will have proper needles... and u risk infection etc etc etc

if you get a piercer to do it, hardly any pain at all, very very sharp clean needles

Yeah, NEVER do it yourself!!

If you don't, you're going to do more harm to your ears than anything else. It's worth paying to have it done professionally.

Ear lobe isn't too bad.

Cartilage is worse, but okay. It's afterwards when the pain hits.

Tattoos are okay, just like being scratched with a needle for ten minutes.

No. Driving sharp, metal objects through wads of live flesh causes no pain whatsoever; although, judging by the raucous exclamations of joy emanating periodically from your local tattoo/piercing parlour, you might well be forgiven for thinking otherwise.

Ouch! I'd hate to think what piercing your bellybutton would feel like

Getting my ears pierced did not hurt at all! It happened so quickly there was no time for it to hurt

i did mine myself using professional standard sterilized needles that i had bought off the internet, and brand new titanium jewelery. Its fine.. as long as you know what you're doing. Getting done by a professional is obviously the best thing to do.

i thought getting your ears pierced would hurt...which is why whilst my friend was getting hers done i was cowering in the corner! But comes my turn..really didn't feel any pain. You feel somthing going through but it doesn't hurt.

It hurts after to clean them or if you knock them...but its totally bearable.
