Morgan Stanley phone interview - sales + trading internship

Hey people, I have a phone interview with MS tomorrow for a sales+trading internship 2008 and was wondering what kind of questions will they ask. I asked the guy today from HR if they would be competency based, but he said they will focus on my commitment and motivation to Morgan Stanley and the position. So what kind of questions will they ask? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers. (anyone whose gone through the process could you PM me, thanks)

It was supposed to last 20 minutes. It lasted 13. She said she will let me know shortly the outcome. Hmmmm I thought I did Good at first, but then in the middle I forgot one question she was asking me! At the end she never asked me if I had any questions to ask her...:frown:

Think 'concise', rather than 'short'! Got mine at 2....I'm worried that I will say another bank's name...

They won't find out if you tell anyone, and tbh you should because it helps peple who are not fully aware of what they could be asked. I was very naive in terms of my knowlege of banking and the financial markets untill a trader gave me a heads up, there are so many people who are literally prepped from birth and have perfect answers and ec's prepared for any question they will face. Like the ex prime-ministers son who also interned at a leading bank, think of the huge wealth of information relating to assessment procedures and interview questions he was likely to face that was likely to have been provided to him.

do i look like or sound like your mentor? ...... people should network with people working in the banks....and i must say if you search alumni from your universities then it isnt that hard! i am the first ever person to go university from a my entire family so if you really want anything in life, it is possible....by the way i have never been interested in being someone's mentor. thanks.

(i asked for help because this was my 1st interview and was asking for a 'general' idea, you are asking me for specific questions i got asked)

I've lost count of the number of times I have seen people asking for interview tips, and then refused to actually give up any themselves. As you said yourself, you've blown this one, so let's hear each specific question...

I had the phone interview for grad scheme last year so perhaps I can help a little bit, Im guessing that the process/questions would not have changed too much.

They asked some general questions like ~ Why MS? Why this Program? Why the degree your doing?

Some competencies ~ teamwork, influencing, communication

Some financial market knowledge ~ Tell me a story you have read recently. Tell me an article that you have read that you found interesting and why. What is your opinion on the markets at the minute? If I had $1million where should I invest it?

And finally some situational questions ~ If I remember correctly I got asked these after the competencies. So for example they asked me for teamwork I say my example and then they would say well if you were in a team where 2 members were arguing amongst themselves what would you do? Or for communication it was ~ Often your job will involve delivering technical and complex information to clients who have varying knowledge of markets and products, how will you ensure that the information is clearly presented so that it is easy for anyone to understand and how will you protect against the possibility of information being misinterpreted.

Mike is 100% correct you asked for help which is what we gave you and now you are not willing to help someone else who was in the same position as you, pathetic. You only wanted a general overview?, any idiot can work out that generally they will want to know why you want to work for them and why you are better than everyone else. Come on! we all know you wanted us to give you specific questions you could expect so you could sit down and script perfect answers and maybe even read them off while you had the interview, again pathetic. Relating to what you said about being the first in your family to go to university? Then surely you know how hard it is for someone with no connections to get into the city, you say they should contact alumni, well why the **** didn't you do that? Why are you posting on some internet forum asking basic questions instead of contacting alumni at Morgan Stanley? By the way I do not need your help, I already have a bb trading offer and by the sounds of how your call went I am delighted to say it doesn't look good for you.

Ok guys obv there was a bit of banter on this thread about giving up information etc. I'll be honest I am looking for direction, help, whatever you want to call it. I have an internship interview (1st i.e. there has not even been a telephone one yet) with MS S&T coming up. Its meant to be 2 half hour interviews with S&T guys, does anyone have any information regarding the questions I could be asked?

For the grad scheme, but this would seem appropriate
