If you're doing the current A-levels then you have to sit 6 papers - 3 in AS and 3 in A2. I've no idea how many papers there are for the new A-levels.

Does that mean the exams for June 2017 or June 2018?

If you are doing the new spec you'll have 3 exams (2 pure and 1 applied-statistics and mechanics) in June 2019.

All examiners have 3 papers for the new Linear A levels in England but that distribution of content is true for Edexcel and not for other examiners. See table here

Although most people will be examined on the new specifications in summer 2019 it is possible to sit the exams in summer 2018, some further maths students will probably do so.
