Liverpool hope university

Ok, so I'm in Liverpool, and I was wondering if anyone else went there, whether they could help me out with some questions about Joint Honours?

I tried to find stuff out on the internet but I think I'm just really bad at using websites. I also tried talking to someone at a UCAS event, but forgot to ask! Brain like a fish!

Anyway, I was just wondering, at Hope you can take two courses at a time right?

I was wondering, since joint Honours is two course as a single degree and is the same amount of time as one course, would a joint Honours count as one course and would I be able to do something else as well as a joint Honours? Or not?

Sorry, but if you know, please help!

Thanks! x

Yes, a joint honours course is a single degree and is essentially the same amount of work as single honours. What else do you want to do on top of a degree, given that you should be spending 40+ plus hours a week on your studies?

Well they let you do two courses at once right, and I'm looking to do a joint Honours in acting and creative writing, and if I can do another course since a joint Honours is classed as one, I was looking at the teacher training, just because at other universities, or if I can't do another course with the joint Honours it'll mean I have to go to university twice. I was just wondering if it was possible to do it all at the same time...

I would suggest that it is virtually impossible to take two degrees at the same time.

I went to Hope and did joint honours, I dropped out and got a job though as it bored me to tears! It wasn't a great deal of work but I would think teacher training is pretty full on. I would suggest going down the route of a PGCE when you finish the joint honours. Plus I could see funding being somewhat of an issue.

I was slightly worried by funding, but it's all sorted now and I've researched, so far the cheapest and easiest place for me to go would be Liverpool Hope, but personally I'm really into the idea of going to Edge Hill or Salford.

Hi there!

At Liverpool Hope, you can study Drama and Theatre Studies and Creative Writing together.
Drama: http://www.hope.ac.uk/undergraduate/undergraduatecourses/dramaandtheatrestudies/
Creative writing: http://www.hope.ac.uk/undergraduate/undergraduatecourses/creativewriting/

It is not possible to do a PGCE alongside an honours degree as the time commitment would not allow. However, if you are interested in Primary Education with QTS, from year 2, students have the opportunity to specialise in a National Curriculum area, including English, Mathematics, Science, Modern Foreign Languages and Physical Education or choose from Special Educational Needs or Early Years: http://www.hope.ac.uk/undergraduate/undergraduatecourses/primaryeducationwithqts/

If you do an undergraduate degree and then a PGCE, your PGCE will be focused on your chosen subject.
If you do want to teach, we'd also recommend that you start building up your experience in schools, as this is something that universities will look for
in Education applications. We hold teacher training evenings throughout the year, and these will be announced here: https://www.hope.ac.uk/teachereducation/
and in our facebook events: https://www.facebook.com/pg/LiverpoolHopeUniversity/events/?ref=page_internal

We've also got Open Days on Saturday 16th September, Saturday 21st October and Saturday 18th November - you're very welcome to come along and speak to our team! http://www.hope.ac.uk/opendays/

Best wishes,
Andrea (Hope Uni Rep)
