Ill since i got here!

Since i've been at uni, i've been constantly ill!
I had a cold at first, then i got flu, followed by bad headaches and feeling sick, now back to flu and really achey muscles! I also seem to be 'spaced out' apparently, or so i've been told like im in another world sometimes.

I really don't know whats wrong with me - I know i should probably go to the docs but im scared that i'll have to go for blood tests etc (I cry and then faint at the sight of needles - really, really afraid of them!)

Any suggestions?

Eat more fruit and veg, drink more water an if you can, take vitimins everyday. You should go the doctors really just to check your a-ok, maybe if you need blood tests you could take a friend along?

Everyone gets ill when they arrive at Uni - I've probably been ill at least 50% of the time. It's one of the things that they conveniently avoid telling you beforehand. If you're concerned, though, see a doctor.

Fresher's Flu, and if you never heard about it before, you just weren't listening to the right people

sounds like freshers flu - took me approx 2 months to get over freshers flu when i started uni!

Drink plenty of water and eat a balanced diet!

thanks, i thought it might be freshers flu, but most people i know got over it quicker. I'll just let it pass, and if its not better soon i might have to risk the docs

Have GPs started sawing off the limbs of every 20th patient or something? I wasn't aware any enormous risk (discounting of course crossing the road, etc) came about from a doctor's visit.

I feel rubbish 50% of the time I'm at uni, from not enough sleep/sleeping sat the wrong time, not eating a ver balanced diet, stress etc You'll get used to it!

Yeah thats pretty much what has happened to me since i've been at uni, one illness after another :s-smilie: I would suggest goin to the health centre at your uni. Just to be on the safe side. I did and they didn't send me off for a blood test so hopefully you won't need one. xxx

Some people here in Aberdeen died of Meningitis recently - be careful everyone, though thats not to say you've got meningitis, just something to be aware of really

I'd see a doctor. Although there's almost certainly nothing seriously wrong with you, it's always best to be safe. There's someone I vaguely knew who has Meningitis. On Friday he felt slightly tired. Yesterday he was found unconscious and bleeding. The last I heard he was in a critical condition with things looking bleak. The chances of anything like this happening to any particular person are tiny, but it's best to be sure. Of course you can't go to a doctor every time you feel slightly unwell, but if you feel as if you've got flu (if your fear of going to see a doctor is outweighing the illness then I doubt it is flu) then getting checked is definitely the right thing to do.
