Is there any way for a UK grad to get a HR job in New York?

Hi, the title pretty much says it all, I've just graduated with a BSc in Psychology with Organisational Psychology (1st class) and have had wistful day dreams of living working in New York City since I was old enough to watch Friends.

As I've just graduated with no direct HR experience what would be the best way of trying to make this work? Would I apply for trainee posts or internships? Are there any companies specifically for helping UK graduates who want to work abroad?

All answers appreciated.

I think that you wished to enter New York since you were young, not old.

Are you looking to work in New York immediately or is this something you'd be happy to do in a few years' time, perhaps once you've gained some experience in the UK? As you could look to gain experience here and join a company with New York offices, with a view to perhaps applying for an internal move/promotion at some stage? I work in HR in the UK for an American company, and a number of people have done exactly that. Much of our HR is in New York as well. I'm sure there will be similar companies out there, if you're willing to play the long game!

I'm aware it's not as magical as tv paints it to be. But I've studied and worked in London for 3 years so I know I can handle a big city.

The sooner the better, but I'm willing to play the long game if that's what it takes. Thank you very much for your advice, I'll look at which companies have NY offices and start applying like there's no tomorrow.

Typically very difficult unless you have the right to work in the US.

You might want to apply to this though:

This looks really useful, thanks. Unfortunately I don't have right to work in the US.
