This happened to me, but luckily it was on a rug so it was much easier to replace!

My mum tired some stuff on mine and none of it worked so had to get rid.

Hmm, you're probably a bit stuck there. I don't think there is much you can do!

is it your bedroom carpet? if it is i'd suggest having a move about of furniture and sticking your bed/wardrobe/rug/bin/anything over it... no-one need know

Thank god. For some insane reason she didn't mind that much.

I must be having a good day.

You're lucky - let it be a lesson to you and turn those fiery plates off in the future

I bloody did, put them straight on the floor and they took ages to cool down.

Well...don't put it straight on the floor then. It's gonna be hot when you put them on the carpet, else!

You know, you'd think I would have noticed that, but alas, I'm not as intelligent as I thought I was.

This is what you get for being a boy who straightens his hair.

Lie them on one of the back of the plates not with both plates down that way the metal/ceramic isn't in direct contact. Cotton is normally the safest thing t put them in - I wrap mine in a towel to pack them hot and have never had a problem.

Reply 12

Just put them on the metal bit of the ironing board next time...that's what I do

or just buy a heat mat - i was lucky and my straighteners came with one included.

I think my parents would kill me if I burnt the carpet!

Reply 15

man, you people are going to make your houses burn down!

get a heat proof mat :p:

I used a sheet of slate that we have on our fireplace for some reason :s-smilie: It does the job! :p:

Ive knacked odd bits of carpet with my heat gun.
- Cheap synthetic carpets melt/soften so quickly and easly its untrue.

Only that you really can do at all is gently cut some of the hardened lumps of carpet off the top and sort of 'fade' it into the rest.
- Your not going to undo melting with cleaning products!!
