It suggests to me that they might want you to go to an informal interview before confirming your place. That's the only similar scenario I've ever encountered. Alternatively, they may simply be waiting to sort it out on UCAS. What University is it?

I got something similar today. A letter from Leicester, saying that they were pleased to make me an offer for English, and that it would soon become offical through UCAS and Track. I'd take it to mean that you have got a conditional offer, and they're just letting you know early

It's Hull & for Law, the letter also invited me to an open day and said that it is not an interview... I was quite confused about it lol.
Thanks for clearing it up guys

I got an offer from HULL as well! It said it was a conditional unofficial offer.
Hmm, sounds like a Hull thing then

Glad im not the the only one with an "unofficial offer" from them...
Mines still not been put on Track yet though, has yours? I'm scared they are going to change their minds and reject me now!

Nah, same here, it hasn't showed up on Track :frown:

Well, whatever happens, I just hope I don't have to go through an interview
Is Hull your first choice?

Same I'd probably go to pieces in an interview! But the letter also had an invite to a department open day and said that it wasnt an interview :s-smilie:
Its not my first choice no, but possibly my second so I'm abit worried! Is it your first choice?

Technically, an offer isn't official until you're notified by UCAS. But if they've written to you it's as near to official as you can get

Thats good to know, thanks. However could they still change their minds?

Theoretically, yes. But then you could phone up and cry, and wave your letter at them. So unless they'd got a really really good reason they wouldn't.

Also note that whilst the offer is official when it's on Track it's only valid whilst your information stays the same. So if you drop a subject/add one/lied on your application etc they can still revoke it.

I so hope I dont end up having to do this!

Sorry to but in, but I've had the same letter from Hull telling me that I have an unofficial offer, but the offer was on track before the letter was sent to me... is this normal or has someone messed something up?

what was the date on the letter? it's entirely possible that it just took ages to reach you with the recent postal strikes

My friend had a similar 'offer' that wasn't through UCAS, but in a letter from the uni. It said, however, that she had to attend an informal open day that wasn't an interview. She didn't go, but I guess it was compulsory because she then got a rejection from them on track.

the letter was dated the same day the offer was put on track, which is still a bit strange that an offer would go from unofficial to official in the same day
