Is contrubuting to State Pension mandatory?
Is it mandatory for a worker to pay an amount for the State Pension? I do not know exactly how the State pension system in the UK works. Basically are workers forced to contribute a % of their salary, or can they just contribute to their private/occupational pension scheme?
You pay National Insurance - that IS compulsory - which contributes towards your state pension, state benefits etc.
