Yes, no and maybe.

There are no hard and fast rules, it depends why it happens, how long it persists, how it's managed, how it's reversed, etc.

Interestingly, psychological trauma is allegedly almost universal.

let's say for a few months.

Do the doctors do their best to keep you stagnated - both in appearance and health?

or do they just give you enough nutrients to keep you healthy?

It totally depends on why it's happened and what's causing the patient to still stay in a coma. They'll be given nutrition adequate for their daily requirements and will be cared for to ensure (hopefully) they don't get pressure sores etc. You wouldn't be getting a manicure and a haircut though.

I'm still not quite sure why you're asking...

I dunno, I'm sure BUPA have a plan for that.

so the nutrients given are of a fixed amount considering age group and body build?

It's just my auntie in China fell into a coma after a car accident... so just upset and curious, that's all.

As far as I am aware, yes. Though it wouldn't be unheard of for people to either lose or gain weight. It's hardly the topmost concern!

If shes in a coma - make sure you can pay for treatment promptly - otherwise the b******s won't treat her.

You apparantly lose the ability to wiggle your big toe, but as soon as you awake you're able to sit upright and sob.

 I may have phrased myself wrong there

what I meant for her physical status during and after the coma.

We're all pretty sure she'll come through anyway, little trooper my grandma.

I thought it was your auntie!?

But this is a really interesting subject -it's strange how people automatically think there's something wrong with anyone wanting to know the effects of a coma!!

Reply 17

Would just like to say I hope your auntie gets better.

Google is your answer here, you will probably find all you ever needed and wanted to know about comas.
