Dating site vs. Facebook stalking...

Ok, I'm posting this as anonymous as I have luvved up mates on this who think that using online dating sites is a bit sad, and who knows, there are probably other people here that do too, so I don't want this post connected with my name.

Anyway, I signed up to an online dating site, but my level of membership (free) only allows you to view profiles, not contact other members. Plus if they want to read your mail or to contact you, they need to be a paid up subscriber, so the site gets a double chunk.

Anyway, I was looking through a list of members near me and I saw that one of them is also on Facebook as a friend of a friend of a friend. They used the same photo for the profile on both sites. Now you can show your interest by making contact through the dating site as that's what it's there for, right? But Facebook isn't really like that, so it may be considered a bit creepy/stalkerish to make contact in that way - if you see my point.

So should I get in touch through Facebook (and if so how?) or just pay the £30 ish and hope she's already a paid up member?

What's wrong with approaching someone down the pub?

The chances are that if he/she's on both sites already, then they'll probably not find your courting that inappropriate.

They were two unrelated points, hence why they were in seperate paragraphs.

I'd pay the money and hope she has too. I used to be on a dating site, and people who sent me a free message to tell me their email address because they were too tight to pay the fees were an instant turn off. It also looks better if you approach someone on the site designed for dating, and not a social networking site as well!

Oh OK,b ut that doesnt really help the OP at all when they want to approach someone specific.

OP - I would just stump up the money for the dating site UNLESS you can wrangle your friend to get info on her and maybe get you in the same place at the same time. I spsoe it depends on loctaions and things.

But yeah, do you actaully know the person at all, or might you be able to meet them some how, and a party or somthing?

Otherwise, looking on there facebook profile, do you have any major shared interested? Poke?

i emailed james on match.com for a bit, subscribed just so i could. he subscribed as well just so he could email me back. Then got his msn adress and we talked from there, then got his number, then we finally met back in July. Now we've been together 4 months and happy.

You are not sad if you go online. At least if you were, the person you meet will also be and you'll have someone in common. James isnt the sort you'd meet down at a club and for that he's more my type.

Best thing i ever did, subscribing.
