Sorry, typo- that should read pragmatism

Exactly, I suppose the pragmatism on the BCL questions was partly it, i have always favoured substance over veneer hence my choice of College. Although I hope that's not a criticism!

No - I think you can afford to have that attitude and expect to get an offer from whichever college you want (which, doubtless, will be the best place academically).

Rather off topic, but does this mean you applied directly to Girton (rather than being pooled) - I've always wondered, but never thought to ask?

It's a question I've been asked by many before- yes I did apply directly to Girton; I was interested in the three Colleges listed above, but ultimately Girton won- it's partly an atmosphere thing. I've been thinking recently- and this is a question I have not asked you, were you at a Trinity Hall open day in April 2001, there were three people interested in law, one of whom I now realise was Tris- you weren't by chance the chap from Loughborough that was there?

Ah, well, you didn't make the worst choice  Actually, I've heard really good things about Girton, and certainly you cannot complain about the fellows, but - even if I had my time again - I wouldn't consider it just because of the distance from the town centre.

I did go to a Trinity Hall open day, and it would have been around that time. That said, I don't remember either you or Tris (and I'm sure I would have remembered him... for all the wrong reasons). My only real memory of the day is sitting outside in the sunshine in the courtyard area (which I think is called cherry tree court) outside the JCR listening to the old DoS and Angus. It might have been another Loughborough Grammar person (Michael) who looks vaguely similar to me, and is now at Christ's?

Did you hear those good things through me or through another? As for the distance it's nothing really- I pass Wychfield after about five minutes cycling and it certainly keeps me fit! For the less energetic there is always Wolfson Court which is near to the UL.

Since we didn't go outside it must have been him rather than you- although I haven't seen him since, he was definately from your school though.

Yes, it would have been him - he was the only other LGS student considering law at Trinity Hall. As he's at Christ's, it is perhaps unsurprising that you haven't seen him since... although I think a romantic liaison is his current reason for not being seen around!
