I hear 97% quoted a lot. I'm not sure if it's for all subjects.

Reply 2

I heard 95%...according to them, they try to interview every applicant, although it must range depending which college and course you applied for. I imagine the more competitive courses (i.e. economics and medicine) would have to reject more applicants for interviews than less competitive courses.

Reply 3

oh ok, that is quite high! i thought it was high, but then i saw that lots (well not LOTS, but a number) of people were being rejected - so was just wondering!

Reply 4

Aaaah I hear 90%! We'll never know... :s-smilie:

Actually on the website somewhere among the forms, they say something about interviewing everyone with 'a realistic change of gaining a place' or along those lines.

Reply 6

Basically, it's most people! Those subjects most likely to deselect *before* interview are those with extra tests such as the BMAT and LNAT - though of course other subjects deselect too, if it's deemed appropriate.

Reply 7

So most UK applicants or are international applicants included in those stats?

Reply 8

I see no reason why international applicants would be excluded from overall admissions stats, in this instance. But I don't know for sure.

Reply 9

More than do from Oxford.

Hm...actually (speaking from personal experience), many international students have their interviews before Nov. 1st which means the LNAT in this case isn't used as a deselecting factor in terms of deciding who gets interviewed.

Also, just a note to everyone else, like one of the posters above has mentioned: Cambridge tries to interview everyone who has a shot at getting in. However, the only two cases where this would be an exception is if an international student is located at an area where no interviewers visit and the student is at the same time unable to go to the UK for one, or if the student does not meet the basic exam requirements. They typically don't try to deselect at this stage.

Good point (it's doesn't contradict mine, though - but certainly adds to it).

Doesn't the interview ratio vary from college to college and subject to subject?

Surely the admissions tutors/profs etc wouldnt want to waste their time with people who don't have a realistic chance?

And thats what they say isn't it? They interview those with a realistic chance, so i think it varies according to how many applicants fit that criteria.

Reply 14

I've seen some colleges state in their prospectus that they interview everyone with predictions of AAA at A-level. I don't think they have been more specific than that officially.

Reply 15

It definitely varies between colleges. Some interview anyone and everyone who meets matriculation requirements, and others desummon applicants based on other criteria such as entrance exams.

Reply 16

I've also heard some people being rejected in other parts of these forums who had excellent marks...but it seemed to me that they had chosen the wrong subjects in order to be able to cope with it. In short you just have to fit their idea of "realistic chance" and then voilà youve got the interview

I think you're right about this. I mean, last year there was over 100 applicants to Emmanuel. Assuming there are about the same number of applicants this year, and almost all of them get an interview, how are they going to have time for this in 5 mere days? The director of studies is suppossed to be present in one of your interviews. They wouldn't really have time to interview 100 people. I'd guess it's around 80% maximum.

Well, they only need to see 20 applicants a day. If you assume they interview from 8am till 12pm and then from 1pm till 5 or 6pm, with interviews every 20-25 minutes, then it's perfectly doable.
