# Perpendicular lines watch

1.) Work out the equation of the line which has a gradient of 2 and passes through the point (1,4)
2.) Work out the equation of the line which has a gradient of -2 and passes through the point (1,7)
3.) Find the equation of the straight line passing through the point (3,5) which is perpendicular to the line y=3x+2

There are two things you need to be aware of, then these questions are just applications.
Firstly, do you know the formula y - y1 = m(x - x1), describing a line with known gradient m and point (x1, y1)?
Secondly, if two lines are perpendicular, the product of their gradients is -1.

For the first two questions you use

y- y1 =m(x-x1)

So for the first question, m = 2 x1= 1 and y1 = 4.

Put into equation and simplify.
