What you do on your first day and the following Sunday is primarily down to whatever your hall has organised for you. IIRC college admin stuff and the Freshers' week (Freshers' few days lol) starts on the Monday. Everything will be explained to you so don't worry.

Check page 3 of the handbook, lectures and classes apparently don't start untill the 11th October .

Why though, do the physicists have to register at 9.00 on Monday though, the earliest ones! That's just not fair !

Are you JMC? JMC and maths both have a small 'diagnostic test' based on their A-level maths syllabus (if last year's anything to go by). It serves just to let your tutors know of any people likely to struggle and who may need some special attention in the first few weeks to bring them up to level with everyone else. With this test you're not assessed anymore than for those purposes.

This is not to say that other subjects don't have some kind of diagnostic test!

Looking at the timetable (for computing) that rahayden gave a link to on another thread, lectures for computing people start on the 9th. Perhaps officially they don't start till the 11th but really the mean ol' deps start early.???!:frown:

Do you know if computing has one?

In medicine there's an informal test on maths, physics etc... to see how much you know. You mark it yourself and afterwards those who need extra help can attend tutorials during the first few days .

It didn't last year as they don't require any previous knowledge. I have no reason to believe that this has changed.

Don't worry about it, it really isn't that important. Most people did pretty badly and I think they expect you to have forgotten quite a bit. The test is there to try and get you back into assessment mode again. Try and do some revision if you get a chance though as it helps your confidence if you do do well.
