At least she will be able to travel to and from the past, unlike some of the critics, who are permanently stuck there.

Was there this much fuss when the master became female?

She seems more like a one-episode side character who dies a insignificant death. She doesn't have that eccentricity. I'm female but this feels a bit forced, a political move. Even then, the Fleabag actress Phoebe Waller-Bridge would have felt more of a natural pick for the role.

I'm disappointed but I'm not going to get uppity and claim I'll never watch the show. I shall be giving it a chance, as with most things in life, perhaps I shall be pleasantly surprised.

Why is a Doctor Who thread in News and current affairs?

Except she won't, cos it's fictional!!
They're going to have to come up with some damn good writing to make this work
Didn't like missy either. Didn't work for me
Don't forget, it's not just you young ones who watch it. There is a very large number of us who have watched this for decades
    Me since early 70s!!!!!!
If this had been a decision made to improve dr who, people may not be so irate. It's not though is it. It's about pandering to pc.
I'm not sure the writing will cut it
    Let's watch the viewing figures

I've seen (and really enjoyed) some of the classic Dr Who, my dad is a big fan and has loads of it on DVD. I really like some of the Tom Baker stories in particular, he was a wonderful Doctor. So I kind of get where you must be coming from a little bit. I think they developed stories better at that time over multiple episodes and although the sets were often laughable and the monsters funny, they also had shedloads of charm and some really well acted and powerful storylines.

However, times move on and no doubt at one time things that happened in the 60s, 70s and 80s on the show looked daring and radical and were critiqued - this is more of that.

Same reason as most of the national media sites have it on their front pages? :cookie:

    No!

Apparently it's less of a problem for women to play evil.

I'm rather surprised that the liberal left cultural Marxists aren't outraged that they picked a British white woman as opposed to a transsexual lesbian Muslim.

I'm one of the ones that is OK with the 13th Doctor being a woman and I'm going to give her a chance. But those who don't like it need to remember that she's the Doctor whether they like it or not and that is women have been behind the success of the show since 1963.

The astonishingly bad writing littered throughout the last couple of seasons has turned me away from the show for good, so I really don't care what they do with it anymore. I was half hoping the BBC would just go for broke and make The Doctor a burqa clad, muslim woman. But maybe that would be a little TOO much diversity for even the BBC's tastes.

"I've not actually seen anyone complain about this pointless thing on this forum, so I'm going to create a thread around a stereotyped strawman to attack instead".

I'm personally delighted that the even Tardis has now had more women in charge of it than the Labour Party.
I am sure that this will be used at Prime Minister's questions.

I am disappointed that Phoebe Waller-Bridge was not chosen. I think that the quirkiness for the role could have been played well by her.

This is the kind of thing that might lead to terminal collapse at the Mail. A black woman Dr would have led to a Daily Mail site explosion with little pieces of Mail raining down all over the web and collateral damage on numerous neighbouring sites such as the EDL, UKIP and the KKK British branch.

Unfortunately this was to be expected from the far-left, politically correct BBC. Never watching the show again.
The BBC are centrist. The views they express are those shared by Labour and the Tories, they don't promote communism or socialism (actual far-leftism) but liberal centrism.

Being an SJW isn't a far-left position, Theresa May has always been a bit of an SJW herself (trying to force race quotas in the police, and recently saying islamophobia is extremism), and she is far from far-left.
