I very much enjoy listening to political and socio-cultural podcasts. My favourite is the Rubin Report, and I also like the Ben Shapiro Show.

I do consider myself to be politically and socially conservative and economically right-wing, but I am very keen on keeping an open mind, broadening my horizons, and delving into the political left.

So, can anyone recommend for me some good left-wing and socialist podcasts (or Youtube channels). I subcribe to Jonathan Pie, on Youtube, which I very much enjoy even though I largely disagree with, but I'm looking for something more substantial. I used to like and watch The Young Turks, although I tend to find their videos nowadays to be rather pathethically biased (I'm not sure whether that's due to my own economic shift to the right, or due to a decrease in the quality of their videos).

I'm looking for a podcast that is reasonable, not hysterical. Something more thoughtful than sensational.

Similarly, if there are any charismatic left-wing or socialist figures (comparable counterparts to people like Peter Hitchens, Jordan Peterson, David Starkey, and Jacob Rees-Mogg) which people can recommend, that I'd love to hear about them and search for videos about them.

I look forward to hearing all recommendations and suggestions.

This is great. You'd never get a left-winger wanting to "delve" into right-wing media or podcasts to broaden their horizons.

People listening to podcasts that align with their interests and views? The shock horror!

This is a bit of a non-comment though, really. There will be equally enough right-wingers who only listen to right wing media.

Where's the fun in that? It shows a propensity to never want to be challenged and a lack of critical thinking if you just listen to people who agree with you. It's the main reason why Labour will never gain a majority currently; they are preaching to the converted and do not listen to the concerns or opinions of those who may disagree with them.

I agree with what you have said there. What I don't understand is why you have seen that OP is left wing and then attacked left wing people for being close-minded. You have jumped to conclusions/made assumptions. There seems to be a hint of self-projection in your post.

As for the Labour comment... never say never, pal.

I haven't seen the OP has left-wing. I said this is great because OP's post is a perfect example of how, in my opinion, those on the right seem to be more willing to debate and discuss with the other side.

Yes, while I am sure that there are plenty of right-wingers who just listen to right-wing media, from my experience those on the right seem to be more willing to debate and discuss without shutting down the discussion.

Also, I actually do think Labour have some good points, but they do have an "image" problem, which is sadly a part of politics nowadays.

Gonna hold my hands up, I f*cked up a little bit I didn't read OPs post properly. Thought he was left, apologies.

What I said still stands to some degree I think, and I'd apply the same argument to right-wingers being more willing to debate etc. I would say their are an equal amount on both sides that will not discuss or debate. This site is brilliant proof of that, there have been a number of times where I've challenged someone (with right leaning beliefs) and they have either replied with dead one sentence answers or with no reply at all. I've seen left people do it too. Hell, even I've ignored and subsequently avoided discussion.

Very true, I'm just going from my own experiences and perhaps the actual reality is more equal between the right and left non-debaters.

    All excellent.

New Statesman Podcast. It's more centre left than overtly socialist, but it actually gives the more left wing factions on the left a fair hearing and analysis.

Stephan Bush does a good job of giving an objective analysis of politics, as is possible. His coverage of Labour party politics and momentum has actually been substantial compared to most media pundits who have had no interest in analysis and instead been lazily dismissing it as thuggish trottery.

Right now on twitter he is calmly explaining to load of proudly ignorant journalists (Dan Hodges ^.^) where the term Social Murder comes from. John McDonell didn't invent it :-/

The thing is though I listen to podcast to largely unwind or try and take my mind off of the stresses of life. Listening to people who grate you is hard work, although there are certain left wing podcasters that do my head is as well sometimes.
