I'm considering taking a year out, withdrawing from my places at uni. I have the grades to get in but feel as though a year out would be good for me, both academically and personally.

I am considering an online level three diploma in english writing both to keep me busy and as something I can add to my application next year. My friend however is also considering applying for this same course but as a stand alone to get himself into uni after failing. He would be applying with this course only, besides his GCSE's.

I'm asking more on his behalf as to whether this course alone would be enough for a university to consider him? I would also like to know if this kind of diploma would boost my application when I reapply? Thanks.

He can study any degree he wants online through the open university, they are very flexible with entry requirements.
