CANLEY?????? and second year accom questions!

Hi
sorry to keep asking questions but do you have to pay for 52 weeks rent in both private and warwick accomodation. What's the highest rent you have heard of for a house (not just in canley). And has anybody any info/advice/etcetc about Canley its where i want to live next year but im getting really mixed reviews. E.g. is it really as bad as sompeople say? Plus how far (walking) is it off central campus?
Thanks soooooo much :tsr2:

Im with Warwick accommodation and my rent is ~42 weeks, so no they arent all 52 weeks, and it wont take long to walk in from Canley. Im not sure about the other things though.

most houses I have come across have 10 month lets September to June contracts.

Yeah, 10 months sounds right and is typical from my experience. Mine started 1st September and lasts until end of week 10 term 3.

Canley is very close to campus of walking times up to 15 mins, however it has a reputation for high crime. And yes tenancies are normally 10 months in length.

ok so i looked on the internet and canley does seem to have a bad reputation :frown: How about kenilworth or is the bus journey from leam not really that bad?

The bus from Leam really isn't that bad to be honest, though it does depend on your hours - it's hardly surprising that the housemate who hates it the most is the Chemistry student with consistent 9am and 10am starts. It is frustrating to not be able to just drop into the library when you need to at random hours, and right now I'm weighing up whether to get the bus to the Learning Grid to try and thrash out an essay or stay here, not lose over an hour in travelling time and work in worse conditions for said essay.

As for Kenilworth, the biggest problems are that a) noone lives there, b) there's nothing to do. I have one friend there and that's it. She has to routinely crash at people's houses in Leam after nights out when she isn't with her housemates. If you live there there's a good chance you'll get bored, and fast. The bus situation isn't that bad though, all TravelCoventry buses to Leam go via Kenilworth.

If the bus journey was that bad nowhere near as many people would live in leamington as they do. If more people I knew lived close to Cov city centre like me being here wouldnt be too bad, but leamington is where it is at and leamington it shall be for me next year.

Should add however that getting the bus from north Leam actually *is* that bad, my friend up there is moving to south / central next year because buses being too full to stop for her is a major problem and she's often late for lectures / seminars.

Most people I know in North Leam still have to get an 8am bus for a 9am and then hang around on campus for ages because getting a later bus isn't possible as they are full. North Leam saves no time that way but if you don't mind getting to campus stupidly early for stuff it isn't that bad.

I would definitely avoid Canley, speaking from experience. If you want somewhere fairly close to the campus, Tile Hill and Earlsdon are ok. (I'm a mature student at Warwick, and I lived in Coventry for years, so if you want any more info about good/bad places, let me know).

Erm i think its around charter avenue where my friends bro live i think its near tesco? Were going to go and have a look at canley and leamington/coventry next weekend anyway as were bored and its not like we should be doing essays anyway! ;-)
Thanks

That's ok, you're welcome. It's worth bearing in mind that Canley is said to have lower crime rates than Leamington. Hope you find some decent accom

Well leamington is alot bigger. Per person Canley's crime rate is higher I believe.

Whilst Canley is nice, if your a social person you are pretty much limited to the same nights out you had in first year, as well as the same facilities. Second year should be about exploring a new place, wether Coventry or Leamington. Go and have a look around these places before and after xmas to see what the areas are like. Coventry is pretty much the whole bus route from Hearshall Common onwards (Earlsdon) whilst Leamington accomodation is mostly south of the railway station.
