deja vu...what shall i do

one of my best mates has asked me out and i do not want to go out with him...but this happened before with another mate (not best mate though) and ever since i turned him down things weren't the same and we drifted apart...i really dont want the same thing to happen this mate...he's too special to lose
What shall i do!!!
Any advice appreciated

(I actually posted this before if your thinking what the hell but it kept saying invalid link or something)

If you don't want to lose your mate you need to tell him that when you turn him down (gently!). He may need some cooling off time to get over you but tell him how much you value his friendship and hopefully he will want to keep it

if you dont like him as more than a friend then definitely dont go out with him! it might be that its in your other friends character to just react badly, maybe this guy wont? just explain nicely that you're not interested like that, but you really appreciate him as a friend. (say what you said to us - that hes too special to lose) theres not much more you can do, things might be awkward at first but i'm sure they would settle down

or.......shall i just pretend it never happened...or is that just arrogant?

Do you mean ignorant? I don't think he would appreciate you blatantly ignoring his advances. Just tell him you're flattered but you don't see your relationship going in that direction, I guess his reaction depends on how much he likes you..

Reply 5

yeh lol thats teh word ignorant

why can't mates just stay as mates!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Reply 6

but if you were to turn him down what would you say...not to hurt his feelings and make things back to normal...do you think i should say its because our frienship is too close or i'm just not ready or something...

Why not give it a try? Like one date and you might fall for him.

If not, you HAVE to just tell him bluntly or nicely. Just say something like "I'm sorry, but I don't want to loose you as a friend. I want to strengthen our friendship and i'm worried that what you want might destroy it" (lol. thats pretty good **** comming from me lol)

I see your Asian, and if your muslim (I am lol). Throw in some Islam .. something like "I see you as a brother" "You know it's against Islam" lol It's what I do sometimes lol.

Also on a completely random note, if you say your thread title slowly ... it sort of rhymes lol.

Just be honest, if you don't want to go out with him, tell him. Think he'd least rather you be honest.

Give it one date. What's he like? I went out with my best friend once and we got on really well and then when it all ended, we were adult about it and we were fine after a while.

Give it one date, if not then just let him down nicely.

Also, I see you live in Birmingham! I live in Dudley (kinda north of Birmingham). Hey brummie!

Oh no, and girls, stop using that word "flattered" please. It's such a kick in the balls.

Maybe you and him were only best friends because he had a crush on you.

And also, it doesn't matter how you let him down, because at the end of the day he is still let down and he will still have feeling for you that he can't help. From my experience when this situation happens, it has usually lead to the end of the friendship.

You need to turn him off. Let him catch you chaving at your bum, or picking your nose and wiping it on the curtains.
