Does anyone here have any experience working as a general manager or like a supervisor in a pub/restaurant? What do you look for in an employee other than the obvious prior experience, excellent customer service skills, good communication/team-working blah blah blah. Coz I've applied to like 30 jobs in the past two weeks with no call backs/emails, having had previous experience and all these 'essential attributes'. Seriously what the **** else do you want?

How far do you normally get during the application process? Do you get to the interview stage?

The time when you get rejected/no response is a good indicator of why you were unsuccessful - perhaps your application didn't sell you well, or you didn't come across well in the interview stage? Although you may not hear anything, if you ask for feedback it can point you to the right direction.

Application form or CV applications?

What was the deadline for the jobs - 2 weeks isn't very long at all, and you'll only hear back a week or so after the deadline.

Yes for some, most no.

So what would you advise putting in the CV then?

Both, but mainly CV applications.

In your CV you want to summarise your key duties and attributes which can be applied to the role. You have identified some already but try to demonstrate team-working, good communication, problem-solving, keeping calm under pressure, previous experience in waiting...make sure that your CV is concise, effective and to the point. If you have a cover letter - you can highlight the best examples of your experience to the potential employer.

Sometimes it can be down to bad luck as to why you aren't making much progress, such as competition which may have increased experience or who know someone working there. You may want to get your CV checked over just to check it reads well. It seems like you are only emailing or phoning about about jobs. Have you walked into any bars or restaurants to see if they are hiring. You can make more of an impression and talk to the staff. Also, do you have friends or family who know of any opportunities? Sometimes places are slow in advertising and this can give you a head start.
