Amoxicillin...

Does anyone know whether it is possible to take either paracetamol or neurofen 3 hours after a 500mg Amoxicillin tablet and 3 hours before the next tablet?

When I was on amoxicilin, the course was prescribed with paracetemol aswell, so I think ( this is only a think mind, don't act on anything I say  ) that they can be taken together.

Why don't you try ringing NHS direct? They will probably be able to answer this.

I was prescribed ibruprofen alongside amoxicillin, so that's a potential painkiller you could use.

However, space hopper has the right idea really - it's better to ring NHS Direct to be safe

will their lines be open at 10:30pm?

amoxicillin is fine to take with paracetamol, ibuprofen and/or aspirin.

Reply 6

Yes, it's fine - I've just checked with the BNF (the British National Formulary, the database GPs and pharmacists use to choose medications and check for interactions). I'm assuming the Nurofen you have is ibuprofen? There are so many variations on a theme....

I have an allergy to Amoxicillin, so would not know :frown:

Ye its fine I used to take it with cocodaomol which was prescribed by the doc and co codamol contains paracetamol. You could take ibuprofen, paracetamol and Amoxacillin all together and be fine.

@h82think, what happens when you take amoxycillin? (rash? fever? etc.)

Reply 10

When I was prescribed amoxycillin I was prescribed the strongest form of paracetamol as well. So I assume it would be fine.

There are a lot of people who say they are allergic to amoxocillin but may not be. Apparently, there were a lot of baby's in the late 80's early 90's that were diagnosed with the allergy but actually don't have it.

Lol yes you can take amoxicillin [antibiotic] with paracetamol/ibruprofen/aspirin.

The only way in which the two would cause you trouble is with reduced liver function since both are metabolised by the liver; however your doctor should have taken account of this and any allergies so start popping them pills lol.

And with regard to the post 2 above me about the strongest paracetamol - there is only one type of paracetamol. Unless used in combination with other analgesia [opioids for example which im guessing she maybe means] - its always 500mg - 1 gram paracetamol every 4 hours.
