On the training course me and my friend are on, you work in a school full time for two years (as well as doing training sessions and CPD) and get awarded QTS at the end. It is all funded by the school and going fine. There is an option to pay money to a uni and get PGCE, but it costs £1800 pounds. is that worth it or do i just need QTS? the company told me all you need in England is QTS, but then why do people do PGCE?

A PGCE is only important where your subject knowledge is insufficient. If you have a major degree in the subject you are intending to teach then a QTS should surfice. After all what do we actually do in the one year PGCE? Unless you are looking for a University validation. There is a reason why when you are doing PGCE you do about 80% of the program on school placement. Because that is more important.

what if u have an undergraduate in a completely diff degree like midwifery?

Hi,

All universities have different entry requirements, so you would need to check with each university, for their individual requirements.

However I know at YSJ you need at least a 2:2 honours degree from a UK higher education institution or equivalent, and GCSE English, Maths and Science all at C/Level 4 or above. Alongside meeting the additional requirements such as the DBS check and having a successful interview.

You do not need to have school experience, but it is recommended and effective in supporting students with the application and interview process. It means you are able to reflect on your experiences and demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning in a school.
