    Hi everyone,

I'm going into my 2nd year of uni now and I'm looking to get a student account, Natwest seems to be the best as they offer a £2000 overdraft along with other perks for joining..

Does anybody know whether you have to be in your first year to apply and do they run a credit check regarding the overdraft?

    Thanks!

It states on the website that:
This account is for Students who are aged 17 or over and are either completing a full-time undergraduate course that lasts at least 2 years; a full-time post-graduate course; or training as a nurse at a UK university or college of higher education.
If this sounds like you, and you are a UK resident, then you can

So I presume it doesn't matter whether you are in your first year as long as you are completing a full-time undergraduate course for at least 2 years, you can always contact Natwest via phone and enquire too.

As for credit checks, most banks, if not, all do credit checks before lending money to anyone, to check if they are a trustworthy person to pay the money back. I had to do a credit check for my overdraft but it was for Halifax.
