Hey, I've been wanting to be a paramedic for ages but recently I've found myself doubting my confidence and whether I have what it takes and subsequently losing interest, also because I feel there's been a rise in certain abuse, for example the paramedic who had liquid chucked in their face, that scared me a bit but I'm also thinking about how the ambulance service is going, of course not because of the actual paramedic. I'm struggling on whether I have what it takes to to do this job. I also have a love for history and have always liked the idea of doing history at university I've been told different things such as history can get boring at university and it doesn't have good job prospects but I'm still not sure. Has anyone got any advice on how I can choose or what I can do? Thanks

I'd recommend paramedic science, 100%. It's normal to be self-doubting. These incidents of attacks on paramedics are rare, don't let these rare incidents put you off being a paramedic. Paramedics are very well respected in society. History does lack job prospects; that isn't a lie.

Get work experience, speak to paramedics and other health professionals.

You can get randomly attacked in daily life, do not let this deter you from following your dream career. You're usually crewed up and on an ambulance, it would be a while after you qualify until you're allowed to work on the FRV independtly so your confidence would be built up before working alone.

Also as you say, I don't know what employment prospects are with doing a history degree.... but with paramedic science you can go straight into work as soon as you graduate. You can work your way up as well, go into teaching etc, lots of opportunities. Go to some open days to get a proper feel for it
