I am currently studying BSc Physics part time with the Open University, funded with a tuition loan from Student Finance England. I am nearing the end of year 1 of 6 - I am a UK citizen who has been living in England for the past 20 years.

I am considering teaching English as a foreign language in Asia for anything up to 12 months in either 2018 or 2019. However I wanted to keep studying for my OU degree via distance learning whilst I do this and if possible still fund it via a tuition loan - I would still have a UK/English address and I will be returning to continue working in the UK afterwards.

I would like to ask if this is possible as all the information I can find just says you need to be "normally resident" in the UK, and I'm not sure if this would apply to my circumstances since I would be only be temporarily outside the UK/England?

    Thanks

    Hi Zeptacular,

I can confirm that you need to be studying in the UK to receive funding for the Open University course, this is also the same criteria if its distance learning.

    Thanks Catherine
