I was wondering if its possible to become chartered with a BEng or is it necessary to have a MEng/MSc?
Also how many years does it tend to take to become chartered.

You typically need a masters-level accredited education PLUS appropriate professional work experience and personal development. It usually takes at least 4 years of work experience.

A BEng is fine if you can demonstrate that you are working at masters level, e.g. via submitting a technical report, but it is simpler if you have a masters degree because you don't need to go through any extra steps.

How long it takes depends on what you are doing. I'm not aware of anyone doing it in less than 3 years, and even many companies that really try and get you through it as quick as possible will say it takes around 4 years, possibly more.

Those docs are so ridiculously complicated, and I must say even the flowchart they provide is rubbish - there's no indication of likely timelines, etc.
