I am assuming you mean first year university.

I always thought about it, but speaking to the students from the above years they always told me to just enjoy summer! You've just finished nearly 7 years of continuous education; so just enjoy the break whilst it lasts haha

If you are on about first year as in AS?

Yeah, I have done a fair bit of History and English literature.

Not going to lie, I did a bit of reading, not from the reading list though... I do a Genetics degree so I read some popular science books around that topic, no the boring textbooks. I feel like if I didn't already have some previous knowledge, I would've found the lectures a lot harder.

My uni doesn't appear to even release the reading lists till the first week of semester so I couldn't properly even if I wanted to.

I didn't do any. I'm guessing it depends on your degree, but I did History and it wasn't really required or expected by the university. In our first year, we did survey modules of the year 500 to the present day, so it was really a case of bringing everyone up to the same level. They didn't assume any prior knowledge, and I'm assuming this is a common case.

Unless you've been told to do extra reading, I wouldn't bother. I don't know what course you do but the first week or two won't actually involve much learning and then the next few weeks are just making sure everyone is at the same level before starting. Just enjoy your summer.
