Name a good song. Preferably a sad one. Something like The Reason by Hoobastank, Hurt by Jonny Cash, Broken by Seether, etc
    How long do you have?

Love The Smiths! I haven’t heard much by Morrissey, I’ll start with your list
He can get a bit moany, but the songs are really good imo, lyrically similar to the smiths, but with less symbolism and more literal.

Seriously? There is no such thing as a “good song”, and this comes from someone who listens to the artists you are mentioning in your first post.
Music is ridiculously subjective, that is why we have different critics for different genres and different subgenres. There isn’t “good” music, there is influential music. A song can relate to different people in different ways, and it depends on the person, it’s the artists job on how the song connects to the person.
However, if you are looking for influential artists, I can name a few. Talking heads (work with Eno), radiohead (preferably ok & kid a) cash, ( Folsom and earlier works), kraftwerk (European train whatever) R.E.M, (auto) Beatles, (pepper, first album of its kind) Beach Boys, (pet sounds) Floyd (the wall, I think dark side is overrated)

That’s all I can say, and think of pretty much, enjoy listening if you have time.

It's okay, lists turns out to be handy.

That's not a page long. Disappointing!

All of your songs are kind of mainstream anyway.

I cut it down, can't give him 2 pages of happy, depressed, sad, party, remixes, Spanish, French, Bollywood songs.

Fair play there. I'd recommend "mvde - luv".

"Blood on my name" by The Brothers Bright is the closest thing in modern music I've heard to Johnny Cash without actually being Johnny Cash.
