    My general feeling if they aren't recognised by the RSPB they aren't "British" birds.
    I don't think the RSPB update their website enough to be right up to date - e.g. they have ruddy ducks on there but only 10 individuals remain due to eradication (they have a page on RSPB) whilst e.g. bee eaters are soon to be common colonisers who are increasing (yet not on the RSPB). But yeah, general rule of thumb, im probably going on a bit.

    yes i can, especially birds since im a birdwatcher
    know the majority of fauna on the british isles (bird in the OP is a male chaffinch)
    not so good with plants however

    Hooray! I'm not the only birdwatcher. Yeah plants aren't my thing, I can do some trees though. I know most british birds, some butterflies and some mammals.
