Amazing thread! I was wondering how many words you would suggest for the literary review and what to actually do for it? I don't fully understand it

Hi, I'm in Y12 and I'm doing an EPQ on the question - "To what extent could personalised medicine revolutionize treatment for lung cancer?". I'm in the process of doing it, and the deadline is getting closer and closer. Is this topic good enough, or can be researched in enough depth for me to get an A* in it? Also, I'm struggling with the structure for it - like how much detail I'm meant to include, and because its a very science based topic most of the ideas are from various sources (not my own basically) so theres a lot of referencing involved. Will this be an issue, or am I supposed to come up with my own ideas as well? My last concern is about the sources I'm using - any advice on where I could find some books that are related to my topic, or what kind of survey or questionnaire I could make to get some primary research?Any advice to improve my dissertation will be helpful. Thanks!
for the structure do-
abstract - 200 words
literature review- 350 words
rationale and objectives - 200 words
main body - 3,500 words
conclusion - 250 words
evaluation of project - 300 words
evaluation of the sources used - 300 words
and obviously bibliography
This structure will ensure you hit all the requirements
plus its fine if majority of the information is not yours- your job is to draw the conclusions and interpret. more sources = better.

Thank you so much, that'll be a really useful guide to go by when I'm doing each section, and I'm thinking of ordering a few books off Amazon related to personalised medicine because most of my information is from websites like the NHS website, or medical journals online so I might need more books as part of my sources.

that's fine.
when i did my epq - you do not necessarily need to go out and purchase books. try to access online books or the current sources your using as you explained seem to be just fine. - get opinions/comments from individuals who are professionals in the field your exploring.
but if you are okay with going out of your way to purchase books then it wont hurt.

This thread is only part of the project - I'm going to be putting out a much more thorough student friendly PDF document, like a little booklet. I'll whack some exam board links in though - that's a good idea, I'm just wary about making the thread too long  Thanks for the links to your work too, I'll be sure to throw them in on my finished project and it will do me good to add another resource to my list, so thanks again

Hi Amefish! If you have completed this pdf, please could you send it to me as I haven't yet started my EPQ and would really appreciate a guide. Thank you!!!!1
When do the epq results come out? Is there any point in doing the epq in Year 13? Because the conditional offer from universities will already be received by the students, so how will the epq UCAS points be added to your total points?

Hey, can someone give me some advice on weather my EPQ topic is too broad if i chose to do: To what extent were the tudors one of the most significant and important dynasties?
Hi! So I'll be starting my EPQ soon and I do have a topic I'm interested in but I'm not sure if it's sensible or a good choice. I want to write an essay but it's not a question, it's more of an analysis. I want to write about having sympathy for the villain, how the lines between good and bad blur and how our morality is challenged when we have sympathy for these supposedly 'evil' characters. What I'm worried about is that it's not exactly something that can be argued, it really is more of an analysis into different characters and different themes they represent and how these villains reflect our reality. So is it OK if my topic isn't a question? I was also wondering that if I'm doing an essay, can I customise the pages and add in my own art (e.g. changing the colour of the page, drawing etc.). Or does it have to be strictly typed or written on a blank page?? Thanks!
If you conduct an interview as part of research for the EPQ, do you need to record it?
Good online short course on Future learn about 'How to Do an EPQ' - you can do it for free as you dont need the bit of paper -
Will i get my marks reduced if i do both chicago and harvard referencing?? i realised not all my sources are journals, reports and books but i have some websites as well so i thought it may be a good idea to put the websites as chicago and books and stuff as harvard to make it look nicer; is that a good idea tho??
