So with AS being removed in the A level reforms to get the final grade in an A level subject do you need to know just the A2 stuff or do you need to learn AS stuff AND A2 stuff?

Yes, you need to know all the content for the A level exams (i.e. old AS + A2)

before 2015 A Levels were split up into AS and A2.
You'd sit a January exam (potentially for some subjects) and a summer exam for AS and that would be 50% of the grade and you would never have to touch AS again.
Now, you still might be examined on AS content depending on your college, but it doesn't go towards your grade, might be used for predicted grades though.
Therefore, the exams in Year 13 will have AS incorporated into it, so you can't just forget AS stuff after your year 12 exams like before, you have to revise it in year 13 too.

As above replies, which makes it even less sensible to do more than 3 A-levels because you now have 2 years worth of material to revise not just one in Y13.

I know for AQA science reformed A Levels, there's 3 papers and for the third paper you have to know ALL of the syllabus - it's pretty much a wildcard :/

The concept of A2 is now meaningless. For an A level you need to know all of the A level content. The AS content is a subset of the A level content but that is irrelevant if you don't take the AS.
