Thanks

- still can't believe it's so soon! -

By the way, I heard that the stereotype for Exeter is that everyone is from the West Country

Reply 61

reeeeeeally? haha... well I'm not taking into account any of the stereotypes... if I like it, I like it  and I'm not from the West Country!

Reply 62

Lol what's the West Country stereotype? I'm not from the UK.

Oh and i'm not in the UK so i'm also waiting for the actual letter to arrive. I'm soooo glad they e-mailed me on the day they mailed the letter because god knows when the actual letter will get to where I am ...

Hopefully the letter will have some more specific info than the e-mail but i doubt it.

So is anyone else going to Magdalen? It seems like i'm the only one!

It's not so much a stereotype as, funnily enough being Exeter college, it was set up by someone from / to encourage applicants from students living in the same area as Exeter. I.e. the WEST country! It's no more true than Jesus being Welsh... although that's a little true

I've been called for interview at Merton and I was wondering, are there normally interviews on the first day or is it more a sort of 'settling in' time?

Depends when they want you there. There won't be a day for settling in as it were - they don't have the spare rooms. But if you've been told to report by 5pm on Monday then chances are Monday night is your own. If you've been asked to be there by 10am Monday then your first interview could be anytime from 10am Monday.

Just so. It's a little known fact that Joseph was born in Merthyr Tydfil and Mary in Bangor, so despite being born elsewhere, Jesus had dual nationality, which he later gave up to avoid national service.

Quick, pointless question if anyone knows the answer.

Are the letters saying you've got an interview particularly thicker/have more in them than rejection ones with just a bit of paper saying 'kthanksbye' in them?

It might help me find out if I have an interview a good 5 seconds quicker

Reply 66

Mine just had two sheets of paper, so I'm guessing nope, there's no way of knowing until you've opened the envelope

my interview letter came with directions to the college, a note from OUSU and a booklet about the process of interview. i knew i had an interview because it was a fat letter and through the window of the envelope i could see the word "accommodation".

Reply 68

 I didn't get any of that!..... :frown:

Reply 69

it is probably indicative of whether you will be offered a place or not. all the extras mean i have basically already got in and the interview is just a formality.

that, or it depends on the college.

don't worry though, you are not missing anything that was not already on the website. i have not had any emails from jesus but i think some colleges do email, so it is all very variable i reckon.

If its really chunky, it's a "yes"; if it's not, you can't tell, as different colleges vary in the extent to which they include directions, a history of the college, a puzzle book, a short biography of each of the fellows, sweeties, a balloon and so forth.

DtS
(ps, I should add that if there is a balloon, it will probably not be inflated.)

haha dammit! maybe I should just not bother going then...... :p:

I was merely commenting rather than getting extremely anxious thinking that it meant they didn't like me

It says on my invitation letter that I have to report to the college lodge at 11.30 am
for a 12.15 meeting

Does that mean I have an interview at 12.15 or something else completely?

It means you have a meeting at 12.15. The word "meeting" kind of gives it away.

X = engineering science
Y = st. edmunds hall

no interview invitation yet. r they usually slow for engineering science?

durrrr. sorry, I thought it might be a eupherism or something:s-smilie:

Reply 77

Naw if it's an interview they'll say interview. Meeting probably means getting all the applicants together and introducing the tutors / giving you pre-interview reading... anything like that.

When's the first day of interview? Seeing as none of the interviews start for a week, today is the earliest that Oxford have said they'll send any letters. Obviously some people have had them in advance, as some colleges / departments have been a bit more organised but today is the first day that anyone can justifiably start to get angsty! Don't panic

Engineering interviews won't start till 2 weeks today. They'll / you'll * probably get the letter today or tomorrow anyway. Whatever.... DON'T PANIC.
