Resolve parallel to the plane. The only force is gravity

F=ma

i was being stupid by not putting "g" in....
thank you!
6. assuming no resistance forces, resolve the parallel component of the weight by:

F(parallel) = mgsin(alpha)

giving you the resulting force. therefore:

mgsin(alpha) = ma

where m cancels on both sides to

gsin(alpha) = a
