As a hobby, I enjoy writing stories on Wattpad (but not fanfics or smut or anything like that). And I was wondering if that would be appropriate to include in my personal statement, seeing as it is a bit bare, and I haven't been able to find a job over the summer.

I'm just worried that if I wrote about it, I might be required to talk about it in an interview, and I'm not really prepared to explain how my story revolves around some sensitive themes, that would be awkward to talk about to an interviewer. However, I have taken my story writing seriously, and regularly update my story.

So what do you think? Would I be able to write about it in my personal statement, and get away with not mentioning the actual themes of my story? Or should I just not include it at all?

if you don't want to talk about it it might not be a great idea to write about it.

It's worth mentioning as a hobby and as a way of bettering yourself, but it's not likely you'll get questioned about it other than 'oh what sort of thing do you do' unless you're going for jobs as a writer (in which case, being demonstrably able to handle sensitive themes is a plus).

If it is relevant to the subject of your degree (say English, or creative writing) then of course it is helpful.

If you are applying for, say, maths, science, engineering or economics then it is pretty well a waste of space.
